You do need the Inkbird app to set this up. However, the whole process is easy and intuitive. Everything just works out of the box. The readings for both the temperature and humidity match up with other (manual) monitors I have around the house. That said, I do appreciate that the app does have the ability to calibrate both sensors and automatically adjust the readings if something is off
