Since 1952 Schild hands have tended to a selection of Barossa Valley’s most treasured and rare vines, some amongst the oldest in the world. The wisdom passed down through the generations ensures each vineyard’s unique terroir is expressed in their premium collection of wines. Deep dark ruby in colour. Aromatically the wine shows vibrant, controlled notes of dark plums, chocolate and a touch of spice which sit alongside subtle, brief glimpses of fountain pen ink and a hint of bright mineral lift on the back end. On the palate the dark plum and chocolate notes re-emerge providing an intense depth of flavour whilst retaining a sense of control and balance as the wine moves through. A superfine tannin frame provides a clear line of travel. Deep crimson. Pure blackberry, liquorice aromas with marzipan, vanilla, roasted chestnut notes. Deeply set and pure with ample blackberry praline flavours, beautifully balanced new oak notes and long fine grained tannins. Textbook Claret style with superb definition and flow. Drink: 2025-2040; Rating: 96 Points; Andrew Caillard MW The squat bottle seems to be becoming more and more popular and we are seeing some seriously good wines in them. A gorgeous nose, generous and richly flavoured. Easy to see why wines like this are such crowd pleasers. There are notes of blackberries, mocha, cassis, chocolate, licorice, coffee beans and immaculately integrated oak. The palate is dominated by those black fruits. So much to love here, from the plush and exuberant texture, the silky tannins and fine balance to some serious length. For enjoying over the next ten to fifteen years. Drink to: 2025-2040; Price: $95.00; Rating: 95 Points; Ken Gargett Cabernet Sauvignon is such a great partner to shiraz. Here we get a bold, full-bodied and big-fruited wine that is also structured, leaf-whispered and sustained. It presents an array of flavours and it presents a lot of them. Blackcurrant, bay leaves, milk chocolate, violets, aromatic herbs and more. It’s as convincing as it is emphatic. Date Tasted: May 2026; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $95.00; Rating: 95 Points; Campbell Mattinson.
