Greek immigrants,  experts in the art of diving brought their trade and families to Tarpon  Springs to create a new industry and life. The warm waters of the Gulf  of Mexico are known to provide the highest quality natural sponges.  Sponge harvesting remains virtually unchanged for over 100 years.
